RVFD & THE COMMUNITY NEEDS VOLUNTEERS LIKE YOU!

 

Being a member of the Rosharon Volunteer Fire Department is a very rewarding and a valuable way to serve your community.  You don’t need any prior experience; you will receive any of the training you need when you join the department and we are always willing to send members to any additional training that they would like to attend.

Active Firefighters: When joining the Rosharon Volunteer Fire Department as an active firefighter member you will do more than just fight fires rather that be structural or grass. We also assist with car accidents, life flight landing zones, execration of people and animals, high water rescues, etc. All active members once voted in will go through a 90-day probationary period.

 

Qualifications needed for active firefighter duty:

  1. Must be at least 18 years of age

  2. Must possess a valid Texas driver’s license with a good driving record

  3. Must pass background check

  4. Must be in good health and of good character

  5. Must live in close proximity to the fire station

  6.  Must fill out an application (see below)

Auxiliary Membership: Not all volunteers want to be active firefighters (go fight fires) and we understand that. The department needs people who can help with non-emergency tasks within the department such as truck operations & maintenance, fundraising events, station maintenance & cleaning, community education, recruitment & public relations events, and clerical tasks.

 

Qualifications needed for auxiliary membership:

  1. Must be at least 18 years of age

  2. Must possess a valid Texas driver’s license with a good driving record

  3. Must pass background check

  4. Must be of good character

  5. Must live in close proximity to the fire station

  6. Must fill out an application (see below)

What you receive as a volunteer:

  1. A sense of pride from protecting & serving your community

  2. Free advanced fire fighting training

  3. Most up to date firefighting equipment provided

  4. Most up to date firefighting gear provided (wildland & structural fire - must be active firefighter)

  5. Participation in a pension program based upon eligibility (must be active firefighter to qualify)

  6.  Life insurance offered based upon eligibility (must be active firefighter to qualify)

  7. Discount programs as well as first responder discounts at many local businesses

Junior Firefighter Membership Program: The Junior Firefighter program was established to offer students the opportunity to explore careers in the fire rescue service.  Through attendance at weekly meetings students learn an introductory level knowledge of firefighting skills, tools, equipment, and fire science.  It is our goal that the program gives the students a better sense of responsibility and that he/she will be more accountable for their actions within their family and community.

  2. Resume builder for college and jobs

  3. Develop personal accountability and responsibility

  4. Prepare yourself for a career in firefighting

 

Qualifications needed for junior membership program:

  1. Must be at least 14 years of age

  2. Must fill out application (see below)

  3. Must have confirmation form signed by parent or guardian

  4. Must maintain a 70% (C) overall average in school and must be in good standing academically

  5. Must be physically able to participate in training activities

 

Juniors do not participate in any active firefighting, except for planned training under the supervision of a training officer or a line officer.  Upon the age of 18, the junior member may be eligible to be an active firefighter for the Rosharon Volunteer Fire Department. Once voted in as active the member will be on a 90-day probationary period.
